Employee Spotlight: Steve Van Loon

This month our employee spotlight takes you inside the walls of Prisma Graphic to introduce you to one of our wizards behind the curtain. Steve Van Loon, Prisma’s Bindery & Outside Services Manager, is a key employee who really makes things happen; Steve’s a big reason we always deliver on the promises we make.

How long have you been with Prisma and in the industry?
I’ve been with the company for just over 8 years now and in the industry for 19 years total. The last few years have really flown by, as we are challenged every day to push the limits of our equipment, increase our capabilities and enhance the overall client experience.

What are the responsibilities of a Bindery & Outside Services Manager?
I am responsible for everything that happens after the ink’s on the paper. I supervise a team of 24 knowledgeable professionals that handle the cutting, folding, stitching, finishing and packaging of every project that travels through our facility. I also manage and coordinate all the outside vendors we use for specialty projects beyond Prisma’s current service offerings.

How do you enhance the customer’s experience?
I believe exceptional service goes way beyond the front office. Although we are all responsible for our partners’ experience on each project, it is ultimately my responsibility to ensure every job that leaves Prisma is 100% accurate and delivered on time. I have to say, it is nice to work for a company that guarantees every project from concept to completion.

What was the most satisfying moment working at Prisma Graphic?
There have been many rewarding moments at Prisma. The one that sticks out in my mind the most was when our team came together following a devastating tornado that hit Northern Arizona. PetSmart stepped-up to donate animal shelter services in the area and the Prisma team banded together to put out 1800 announcement kits within a 24-hour period. It was a fairly large commitment, but we all knew we were working together for a great cause.

What can you be found doing when not helping meet clients’ needs?
When away from Prisma I’m usually spending time with my family. My wife, Jessica, and I have three kids with very diverse interests. One son is an avid reader and a scholar, the other is a star athlete and our daughter is a bug collector, big time. Needless to say we are very busy and I love every minute of it. When I do find some free time, I’ve been known whip up a batch or two of home brewed beer.

Steve, thanks for taking the time to share your experiences with us. We appreciate all your hard work to help make Prisma Graphic one of the best commercial printers and marketing service providers in the Southwest.
